Maggie & Archie, An Unexpected Pair
- by Maggie de'Vries
Archie is a cockapoo — a change of pace for Maggie, who’s always had dogs with presence. Big dogs. Serious dogs. The kind that looked like they could guard a house just by standing in it. Archie, on the other hand, is smaller, curlier, and far more interested in being exactly where Maggie is at all times.
What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in loyalty. Archie watches carefully, learns quickly, and seems to understand things without needing much explanation. He sticks close on walks, checks in often, and settles easily, as if he knows his job is simply to be there.
There’s something quietly lovely about the two of them. Archie fits into Maggie’s life with ease — not replacing what came before, but adding something different. Softer. Lighter. Still deeply devoted. Still very much a proper dog.
Together, they move through the day at a steady pace, well matched and comfortable in each other’s company. Proof that sometimes the dog you don’t expect turns out to be exactly the right one.
